Two time nominee and third time Council of Fashion Designers of America Menswear winner Michael Bastian’s Spring 2016 RTW (ready to wear) line embodies his signature uptown preppy aesthetic.
Like Tom Ford, Bastian was away of the increasing “feminisation” of men’s style, adopting old shopping habits long the domain of women and a penchant for cult designer brands, skinny silhouettes and Italian hemlines (over exposure of the ankle); as a result, Michael Bastian’s new spring summer menswear collection follows the classic slimline cuts he proffered years ago but with a new twist – banana leaf camouflage print.
“We’re not really a black brand, but black for summer felt really nice,” – Bastian
It’s a time of edgy-tinged preppy look with textures and motifs best displayed with your typical safe haven of manliness – the navy blazer. Paired as separates with denim shorts or in a suit, the graphic elements in intarsia sweaters can be significantly homogenised into a cohesive look. Notably, in a rare move, he kept black as a staple for summer.
