Autumn 2011: Brooks Brothers Black Fleece

Posted on August 11, 2011

It’s winter and though Melbourne winters are relatively mild; autumn winter seasons are really the best time to get your style on. Two things- fun with layers OR awesome fleece. Now I already have a flannel suit, so when I heard Thom Browne was looking to original Brooks Brothers’ hunting attires for inspiration, I was thinking deerstalker hats and Sherlock Holmesian fleece long coats; As it turns out, Thom Browne reinvented the collection this autumn winter with familiar yet modern silhouettes.

Brooks Brothers Black Fleece for Autumn Winter 2011

For this Fall Brooks Brothers collection, the 2008 GQ Menswear Designer of the year used cavalry twill, cashmere, Shetland wool, Persian lam and tweed. The baby camel hair patch pocket jacket steals the show for me and while I’m not often a fan of shopping for more than a single piece within a collection, the truth is when it’s paired with the cable cardigan with toggle closures, the contrast of neutral tones make it a combination that simply oozes distinguished classic elegance. For the eagle eyed, what I found rather kinky for the traditional men’s atelier is the use of boots in the look book- daring but don’t let that distract you from Brooks Brothers’ pebble grain penny loafer and mahogany brown leather penny loafer.
