A Brief History of Denim
Read on and find out how you might win an all expenses paid trip to the G-Star Fashion Show in Berlin as a fashion photographer and a G-Star outfit worth over $8,000.

Produced by the Andre family, The root word comes from a french fabric called serge de Nimes. It’s a possibility that the word was shortened to “denim” that we all love and are familiar with because of new world (Ahem, North American) laziness. Jokes aside, the first denim trousers were made in Genoa, Italy and back theh, the French had another name for the land of pizzas, the frenchies called them “Genes” and thus the name. Look no mention of Levi’s.

Definitely no looks from Levi’s from Milan Spring Summer 2011 collection either.

Prada

Looking for simplicity, Miuccia Prada found one of the most robust fabric in the world, denim. From there inspiration struck as she turned the stuff of jeans into hospital scrubs, blazers and trousers of beauty with white contrast stitching.

D&G

Slim not skinny. Fitting yet relaxed. Domenico and Stefano used denim to great effect. Cut like trousers and paired with cardigan or blazer, the smart casual look beams across. Roughed up and torn with checkered shirt, you get a look that oozes primal machismo.

Gucci

Bleached white, denim looks timeless and classy (a personal favourite around the office and our favourite look of Milan in Denim SS11). Paired with tan blazer and rose brown brogues shoes, the effortless combination really brings out the blue in the denim, it’s our favourite contrast next to black on white. Gucci designer Frida Giannini has gone iconic sixties with this.

Dolce & Gabbana

Heroin chic makes a come back. Perhaps a sign of uncertain times and definitely not a look for everyone to carry off, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been going back to their roots with the suit at Milan SS11, with the denim, he’s gone for casual and relaxed, they’re bucking trends here.

DSquared2

Porn-star excess to American Gigolo, nothing says it better than shirt unbuttoned and tucked into immaculate boot-cut blue jeans.
